Driveway & Walkway Snow Removal in Monument & the Tri-Lakes

We do not salt your driveway or your walkway

No salt, no rock salt, no chloride-based ice melt — on any surface we clear. This is a deliberate policy, not something we skip to save time, and it is worth understanding before you hire anyone. Salt does not melt snow so much as force a freeze-thaw cycle: meltwater soaks into the pores of the concrete, refreezes when the temperature drops again overnight, and expands. Do that repeatedly over a winter and the surface scales and spalls — it flakes, pits and goes rough, and the damage is permanent. On a new pour it is worse, because concrete under about a year old has not finished curing. Chloride also corrodes the reinforcement in the slab, tracks indoors on boots and paws, and runs off into the beds along the driveway, where it kills plants and leaves salt in the soil for seasons afterwards.

What we clear

Winter work covers the surfaces you actually have to walk and drive on:

• Driveways, including the apron where the plow berm ends up.
• Front walkways, paths and the route from the driveway to the door.
• Steps and porch landings, which are where people actually fall.
• Patios, decks and gates where access matters.
• Piling snow where it will drain away from the house rather than into the foundation when it melts — the same grading logic as the rest of the year.

Snow on the Palmer Divide is not Colorado Springs snow

The ridge that runs between Monument and Castle Rock lifts storms coming off the plains, and the difference that makes is not subtle. Woodmoor, Monument, Palmer Lake, Gleneagle and Black Forest sit up on that divide at roughly 7,000 feet and reliably take more snow — and wetter, heavier snow — than Colorado Springs takes on the same day. Season is longer at both ends, too: a storm in October and another in May are both normal here. Pine cover through Black Forest keeps north-facing driveways in shade so what falls does not melt off on its own, and the wind that scours one side of a property drifts the other side back in behind you. All of which is to say a snow plan that works in the Springs is not automatically a snow plan that works up here.

Instead of salt

Clearing early and clearing properly is most of the answer — snow that never gets compacted into ice does not need a de-icer. Beyond that, we would rather fix the reason a spot ices over than treat it every storm: a walkway that sits in a low point, a downspout discharging across the path, a section of driveway with no fall on it. Those are drainage and grading problems that happen to show up in winter, and they are the same work we do in the summer. If ice is a genuine safety problem at your front step, ask us on the visit and we will tell you honestly what would fix it — including when the answer is a traction product you apply yourself rather than anything we spread.
