Hardscaping & Retaining Walls in Colorado Springs
Paver and flagstone patios, walkways, retaining walls and boulder work — the parts of a yard that do a job and ask for nothing back.
What hardscaping & retaining walls looks like with S&C
Hardscape is the structure of a landscape: the patio you actually sit on, the walkway that stops a desire path forming across the lawn, the wall that holds a grade in place. It is also the part that most rewards being built properly, because on Colorado clay everything that fails, fails from underneath. We handle excavation, base depth and compaction as carefully as the finished surface, then install pavers, flagstone, walls and boulder work to sit level through freeze-thaw and monsoon season.
Every hardscaping & retaining walls project is quoted after a free on-site visit, so the price reflects your actual yard rather than a guess over the phone. You work directly with owners Chris and Simeon — the same two people who walk the property, draw the plan and run the crew — backed by 15 years of combined experience across the Front Range.
What’s included
Retaining walls hold a grade, not a look
A retaining wall is a structural element that happens to be visible. It has to deal with the weight of saturated soil behind it, and saturated is the operative word — clay that has taken on monsoon water is dramatically heavier than the same clay in August. That means drainage behind the wall, proper base, and the right block or boulder for the height involved. A wall built as decoration leans, and a leaning wall is not a repair job, it is a rebuild.
Where hardscape earns its keep
Hardscape is also the most reliable way to cut the amount of work a yard asks of you, because none of it needs mowing, watering or feeding:
- Patios and seating areas, in pavers or flagstone.
- Walkways, pathways and steps — including crusher-fines and breeze paths where a softer surface suits.
- Retaining walls, seat walls and boulder placement.
- Driveway edging, borders and the rock beds that frame them.
- Dry creek beds, which handle storm runoff and read as a feature the rest of the year.
Matching the house
The thing people most often regret is a stone colour that fights the house. We pull material that picks up the tones already in your stucco, brick or stone rather than introducing a fourth colour to the elevation, and we keep the material palette tight — a yard using two stone types reads as considered, one using five reads as accumulated.
